Feature request: allow queries over item metadata
I would like to use this channel for suggesting an additional feature to this great tool: a feature which would allow selecting part of a dataset for display on the basis of a query over the metadata associated with the items.
A bit of background. We have an interesting use case here in Würzburg, which is in fact similar to some of the sample data sets provided in the Geobrowser (Kafka, Goethe, Böll). It is a set of 1000 bibliographic records of English novels translated into French during the 18th century. The Geobrowser allows to display the time and place of each translation, something which should provide insight into the spatial and temporal distribution of translation activities. (In the long run, we would like to be able to link Zotero collections of bibliographic items with the Geobrowser, at least in a semi-automatic way.)
It is currently possible to refine the timeframe or the geographical are, but it is impossible to drill down into the dataset via the metadata and ask, for example, when and where novels by Fielding were translated as compared with those by Daniel Defoe. This could be accomplished when bibliographic metadata beyond address and timeStamp are provided in the description field, over which searches could then run.
From my perspective, a lot of datasets would benefit from such a feature, including the Goethe, Böll and Kafka sample sets. Please feel free to contact me for more details, if you need them.
