fix: add logging when error occurs

Summary

Although the error is caused by faulty data, we added some logging to give us more insight about a problem.

• I added a statement to the CHANGELOG.

• I bumped the version number in build.properties.

• I updated the README (if applicable) and kept the docs up to date.
